LORRAINE (GOSBEE) VATCHER
FINE ART

PRECARIOUS - Sold

"Precarious", is one of my works showing how erosion happens in the areas of Prince Edward Island with high cliffs. Our rocks are made of sandtone; in between these rocks are layers of soil. With high tides and storm surges, wind and rain, the forces of nature remove the soil and the rocks fall off the cliffs. The large trees hold onto the soil as long as they are able to twine their roots around mounds of clay but eventually the soil from the tops of the cliffs give way and the roots get exposed. As time progresses, they die and topple into the water.

There IS tearing down but the beauty is undeniable. Just look at the carvings in these rocks untouched by human hands!
